Christmas in July Runner - ZOOM Class

What you will learn:


  •         Build/refine your quilter’s toolkit of essential skills to increase your piecing accuracy for success in all your quilting projects.

  •         This table runner demonstrates:

o   An accurate, efficient method for making a ½ rectangle

o   Vertical row quilt construction

o   Simple strip pieced background

o   A technique to keep organized when cutting and piecing

  •         This table runner is designed to use the Studio 180 Designs Tool:  Split Rects

  •         Finished runner is 24 ½” x 48 ½”


  •         This workshop is be structured as a 6 hour workshop over 2 days.  Additional personal sewing time will be required for completion of the table runner, quilting and binding the runner.

Confident Sewer, 6 Hour Workshop (2 hour and 4 hour sessions on consecutive weeks) It all starts with a rectangle. Participants will build on a simple half rectangle technique to construct the tree units. Fabric and color choices will make the trees pop. Avoid fabric waste typical of traditional rectangle construction. Directional fabrics are not recommended for the trees. Tackle accurate finished 2" x 4" and 1" x 2" half rectangle units without hesitation.
Materials Included:
o Christmas in July pattern o Fabric and batting to complete the quilt (see pattern) o Acorn Easy Press Pen and Seam Align Glue are recommended o Studio 180 tool Split Rects Tool. o 20 large paper plates o Sewing machine (in working order and manual), sewing kit, cutting mat, rotary cutter and rulers (8" x 24" or 6" x 24" and a 12" square)

Susan Madu
Instructor Bio:
Susan Madu is a CPA by day and a passionate creator and quilter by night. Susan has been quilting for over 25 years and garment sewing since she could reach up to a sewing machine. Susan is never without a sketchbook or some project in her hands.

Her quilting has evolved from making quilts from commercial patterns to designing her own
patterns under the Modern Blended Quilts banner. Susan's patterns appeal to both traditional and modern quilters alike. A central theme of Susan's patterns is blending together elements of
traditional and modern quilting.

Susan teaches regularly and has been described as a knowledgable teacher that takes great joy in sharing techniques and tips to help class participants be successful in their quilting projects. Susan shares her insights with humor from the perspective of having learned the hard way what not to do "ask me how I know?!"

Susan has designed over 20 patterns and one of her innovative techniques in her pattern Bright Squares has been included in Studio 180 Design Ltd.s Designer Gallery. Building our quilting community and supporting local quilt shops are important to Susan.

Given this, her patterns can only be found in your local quilt shop.
